A new phone and a party

As it turned out, the iPhone 4S that landed in the saltwater pool was a complete loss. So New Daddy has downgraded slightly to the 4, which he purchased off of ebay. After three weeks with no smartphone, you could say he's ready to get another one. He almost bought a Kindle, just so he'd have something to do on the bus, heheh.

In the meantime, we've celebrated several birthdays, including a cowgirl bash for Precious at a jumpy place. Cutie's was somewhat lower key; we'll be having small family parties with each side of our family. A yearly birthday-bash-mama, I am not. All of the sugar from celebrating, plus a shortage of Vitamin D3, gave way to the kids' fighting a nasty flu-thing during the first part of this week. But, thanks to these thoughts on dealing with childhood sickness, the fight was intense, but shortlived.

Here are a few pics from Precious' party!
First- Cake #1, a Gâteau Concorde from Trader Joe's, eaten the morning after her actual birthday

Next- Cake #2, the Boot Cake: original creation by The Amazing Aunt Ma.
When Precious told me she wanted a cherry cake, I passed this along to Aunt Ma, and mentioned that chocolate might go well with cherry. After all, I'm a Cella cordial cherry gal. Well. On the day of the party, Precious announced to Aunt Ma that she had wanted a lemon cake. Hmmm... would have been nice if she'd told me... It was a delicious and gorgeous cake, regardless of the lack of communication.

Party favor bags: My un-crafty self is pretty proud of how these turned out, with their "cowboy sayings" and all...

Some sweet Western kiddos post-party

So... I guess you can see why I don't do these kinds of parties very often. I think Precious' last "real" party was for her 4th birthday. But she had gotten into Roy Rogers lately and wanted a cowgirl party. So we made it happen. It was fun, but not something I want to do yearly.
