A picture-less post for a picturesque weekend

I didn't post on Friday, because I was getting ready for our trip to New Daddy's hometown for Mother's Day weekend with his parents. I don't have any pictures posted yet, because I started this post on the little pc while New Daddy was on the big pc. The memory card slot is in the big pc, and I don't feel like dragging out the usb adaptor for the little pc.

Precious had a disgusting experience with her pacifiers on Thursday which I shall not relate in the blog. It resulted in my throwing them away. I warned Mimi before we left that she would be weaning herself this weekend, and to expect a little more crying at bedtime than normal. Precious has done wonderfully, and the process has gone a lot more smoothly than I thought it would. We went cold-turkey, and I must say the approach seems to be a lot less confusing than "phasing," etc. Le paccy n'existe pas.

Saturday
We went to the beach. New Daddy tried twice to set the sail on the Hobie and sail. He flipped both times, the wind was so strong. It's a good thing Poppy was out there with him, or New Daddy might have donated the sail to the ocean. I have never felt the wind that strong at the beach. There were whitecaps way past the breakers, and the waves were wild! Precious enjoyed just being there and collecting seashells for her fist-collection.

Sunday
On Mother's Day, we heard a wonderful teaching-sermon from Poppy. He was comparing all of the new versions of the Bible to what people are doing with the prophet's Message. Then, at 1:00 we showed up at Wishbones Restaurant for a delicious Mother's Day brunch. After that, we did some shopping at the beach. Mimi didn't have to cook all day, which I think was a first for her!

Monday
This day stands out in my mind as the perfect vacation day. We lounged around in the morning, ate lunch at a beautifully restored old house, went on a kayaking river trip in the afternoon, got strawberries from a local farm in the evening, and finished off the day at a small-town ice cream parlor.

The river trip was on the Little Pee Dee, which to me is the most beautiful low country river ever. It's also the only low country river I've ever been on-- oops. ~ahem~ Just know that if you ever have a chance to see the Little P.D., you should :). This was my third trip on it, and it just gets more beautiful each time. This was my first trip in our new Hobie, and I love the Mirage drive! Pedals, not paddles, are the way to go!

While we traveled and New Daddy fished, Precious occupied herself mostly by leaning over the edge and splashing in the water while I gripped her dress. She also enjoyed saying hello to the cypress-stump people. She loved touching the eye of the huge bluegill that New Daddy caught, and sadly asked after the fish, pointing to the water, after he darted away. We spotted some geese, and Precious liked watching them fly away after we tried to get a closer look at them. Precious really enjoyed getting to go to Mimi's kayak, too :). She also got to ride on New Daddy's shoulders, practically airborne, while he pedaled us down the river at five knots.

Tuesday
We left the house at 10:00. On our way back, we stopped at the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia. Precious especially loved the monkeys, fishing cats, and the gorillas. She also exclaimed greatly over the flamingoes and the grizzly bear cubs. We got in around 7:00, and Precious helped New Daddy mow the lawn and maul the garden hose. He is very handy with the jack, as he used it to lift the mower while he untangled the hose from the lawn mower blades.

That was the weekend! Pictures coming soon!

Oh, the beach! Sounds like fun! Anywhere near the water sounds fun. Can't wait until we are able to take a vacation and go to the beach.

How long did it take you to go through the Riverbanks Zoo? It has been so long since I have been.
We have been wanting to take the kids but they get wiped out with zoos that are too spread out (such as the Asheboro Zoo)and don't even really enjoy the last exhibits as much. We just try to avoid those zoos that take a full day (opening time till closing time)to navigate.

Lord Bless!

Wow, sounds like you guys had a great time! Renee is a cutie pie.

And speaking of trips to the zoo, did you hear about this story?

That was the wonderful thing about Riverbanks! It wasn't very spread out, and we got a very good tour of it in about two hours. We didn't really linger anywhere, but we did get to see nearly everything. Highly recommended for young 'uns and pregnant mamas!

I really liked the farm / petting zoo, complete with a hand washing station. And the gorilla building is exceptional. There is a huge glass wall that the gorillas like to rest against. When they're that close, you get a great view of them and their size.
