Are we ghetto or what?

Our truck has been pretty dinged up for a while. The first dent happened over a year ago when New Daddy was working at an office building with garage spaces made for compact cars. He scraped a concrete pillar on the passenger's door while backing out of a tight space. And this was a week before he left that awful company. Good riddance.

The second dent was from the trailer that has already cost us twice as much as we originally paid for it, since we jackknifed it within a week of owning it. New Daddy can back a trailer-- no problem, just so we both remember that the trailer is attached to the truck. That was the problem; we both forgot.

Anyway, two collisions, a deductible of $500, and sheer laziness had prevented us from doing anything about it. Until... this evening, two body shop guys approached New Daddy at the gas station and offered to follow him home and fix the dents for $575-- cash only, because it was off the books. It was an offer too good to refuse, right?

Until they got here and started drilling holes and banging. It was a little scary; but, we don't live at a body shop, so how would we know? They made a quick trip out to buy "the expensive stuff" paint (thank goodness gray isn't hard to match), sprayed excess fiberglass filler all over the road where they were working, and messily waxed the areas to "help the paint blend in," which we will buff off in the car wash tomorrow.

On top of that, when they first arrived, the slick-talking one pretended that they only saw the trailer dent, and offered to fix the parking garage dent for an extra $220. New Daddy is a brilliant cheapskate haggler, and told them it was $600, or not at all-- after they had started working. They agreed to do both dents, and he added in a $20 tip at the end.

So, the truck looks great; we think so, at least. And we think we're grateful to finally have it fixed.

We hope so.

There are a few automotive things that I won't tackle, and body is one of them. I've read plenty of instruction, though, and it isn't possible to fix major dents without drilling holes. So, be comforted, my child. Things are in good hands. :)

I think their speed and confidence showed that they really did know what they were doing.

Though, I took it through the car wash today, and it did next to nothing to that wax! Here we come with a t-shirt... :D
