Tater is five months and counting!

Tater (we've been calling him "Buvers") passed the five-month mark over Thanksgiving weekend.  (And see Bubby's missing tooth in the picture?)  I think the most adorable thing Tater is doing right now is gurgling.  And when he smiles, the happiness is tangible when he kicks his legs, too!  Absolutely adorable.

I've been reluctant to start Tater on solids.  It was a little bit of two things.  First, once you start, you can't go back to milk only.  Secondly, I wasn't looking forward to stinkier poop.  Both reasons were a little selfish, especially since I can tell his gut has sealed and lately he has been looking for a little something more.  And I justified it by telling myself that Bubby hadn't wanted anything besides milk for his first nine months, when he weighed 20 pounds on milk alone.  Clearly, Tater is different.

Finally, today he had his first soft-boiled egg yolk!  I made Estrellita Sopita for lunch, and he relished about eight bites of yolk mixed with a little chicken stock before he was satisfied.  He also had a little avocado a week and a half ago, which he thoroughly enjoyed.  I think we're going to have a little man who loves his food.

He also went through his first virus about two weeks ago.  We're finally over the runny nose and disturbed sleep.  At first, I was a starting to wonder if he would make me a liar by ceasing to sleep through the night since he was seven weeks old.  But now that he's feeling better, he's right back on his normal 7:00 to 5:30 schedule.  He's starting to let the morning nap fade.  We're alternating days of two and three naps.

Tater is also entering the "grab everything in sight" stage.  Something else I've been putting off, but will start soon, is... training!  It's very easy to let babies know what is okay to touch, and what is not okay.  We'll probably start with hair, hehe.

Still no teeth!  He drools profusely and gnaws on things, but he still hasn't cut in any teeth.  Compared to our other kids, he's placing last in that department.  He's also won the contest for the last one to sit up by himself.  All of the others were sitting up by five months; Tater is not quite there, and it will probably be at least another month before he's strong enough.  But he's cute enough- definitely a first-place finish, there!
