Cutie loses a tooth- on purpose

Last October, during our visit to the USS North Carolina, Cutie banged her mouth pretty badly while she was climbing on one of the metal benches on the ship's deck.  Her front teeth were knocked loose, but over the following weeks, they firmed up and appeared to be okay.  After a month or so, a gum boil appeared above her right front tooth.  I kept it drained and applied some herbal antibiotics.  Over the past few months, the boil stopped re-swelling and I thought things were clearing up.

At her first dental cleaning a couple of weeks ago, I had the dentist take a look at it.  When she pressed on the gum- more pus came out, and Cutie was clearly in pain from the pressure.  Verdict: the tooth needed to be extracted to clear the infection.

And so today, our adorable three year-old lost her front tooth a few years early; it makes me a little sad.  It will definitely take some getting used-to, but the dentist told us this was the only way to clear the infection and make sure the developing adult tooth is healthy.  I had told Cutie almost daily that the extraction was going to happen, and she came through like a champ, using only local anesthetic.
