The day that didn't go quite as planned

We set out to do some hiking today, because it was an unusually gorgeous day for late January. Then, we missed a turn, which took us about an hour out of our way. What was the good thing that came from this?

We got to see ice climbers. Yes, in Georgia. On a scenic route (really: "Some-Somebody Scenic Route" was the name of the road) that we would have never known about if we hadn't taken our little detour.

This detour made us exactly three minutes too late to get inside the gate to the waterfall that we had planned to visit. The result for this mistake wasn't quite so great. We ended up eating old ice cream and shouldering our way through biergartens and streets with lots of unhealthy-looking people. We did get some nice river shots of the kids. Just seeing the river was a nice break from seeing people.

The best part of the day: dinner at Natalie Jane's Cafe in Clarkesville. We were here for my birthday last year; again, we were very impressed with this place. Not only were they quite tolerant of our carbound children whose legs were finally unfettered, the food was absolutely amazing. Then, we strolled around the downtown Clarkesville area and let the kids race around the gazebo many, many times. We love Clarkesville. We did not love the previous town.

It was not quite the day we'd planned, but a good day, nonetheless. We were relieved to finally let the kids get their wiggles out, and very grateful for such beautiful weather. Maybe we'll try for a hike next time?
