Mothers Day #5

We are safely home after a weekend trip to celebrate Mothers Day with New Daddy's parents. But, since we would be on the road today, we actually celebrated yesterday with the whole eating out-thing. And I have to say, if anyone is ever in Conway, SC, do check out the Rivertown Bistro. Oh. My. That was an awesome meal.

It's funny. I grew up in a family of three girls. Therefore, on Mothers Day, mama wasn't allowed to do anything. Queen for a Day. That was, until we needed to find some obscure ingredient that only mama knew the location of. Then, she was permitted to leave her room to help us out, but only for a moment. And we made sure that she stayed in her slippers. I hope I will be as understanding of this ritual with my girls as Grandma R was with us. Maybe it will never occur to mine.

But, I'm discovering that Mothers Day with two sons is a little different. New Daddy didn't even know corsages existed until we got married (and then he resorted to calling them croissants as some sort of joke). And I have a mother in-law who, no matter what, ends up doing more for others than they could possibly do for her. So, as it ended up, I was the one sleeping in on Mothers Day morning while she cooked lunch and kept an eye on the kids. Mimi is a jewel.

On our way out, we took the kids through New Daddy's hometown and showed them the different locations. His hometown is beautiful, classic lowcountry. The kids learned what Spanish moss was. And we discovered that Francis Marion was a short man.

Then we made it home-- not exactly uneventfully, given that there were kids along, but here we are.

Discovering Francis Marion was a short man sounds like it was one of those funny anecdotes provided by the observational skills of a child.
