Lately...

We've gotten the back siding painted Sherwin Williams "Bunglehouse gray," which involved knocking out our landline for a day and a half. Thanks to cell phones, it was rather painless. Now, no doubt the neighbors are anxiously awaiting the time that we can get the rest of the house re-sided and painted. Maybe everything will be finished by next summer. (mwahahaha)

New Daddy has been spending the odd week out of town, and it looks like this will be the norm for the next few weeks.

The kids pretend-play constantly. Put them outside, and the gate that keeps Cutie from climbing the steps becomes a shop stand. Here, the "payer" accepts all forms of payment for dubious goods. Household games are always a favorite, too. Usually, Precious is the mama, Bubby is the daddy, Cutie the baby. Sometimes Precious and Bubby each have a baby.

The sometimes-empty laundry basket is a favorite cage for a wild cat, sometimes a coyote.

Bubby, in his own pretend play, enjoys plotting events for the nativity scene. Only, he calls it a "sep-tivity set," and the baby is "Baby Moses." The straw-filled basket really does look like one Moses would have laid in. Anyway. In one of his settings, everyone is in a circle around the baby. Then, everyone breaks off into groups of two, facing each other. This way, they're all talking to each other... and then back to the baby, and so forth. He painstakingly arranges everything in precise patterns, with the utmost patience. A virgo male, he is.

We've been reading Precious' readings a little more faithfully. Precious does well with her American History for Little Folks stories, and also enjoys Isaac Bashevis Singer's Stories for Children. She is teaching herself to read, write and draw with very minimal guidance and encouragement from us. I'm forcing math upon her, and she endures it with a quick mind.

Cutie's been teething. I can't remember how many months (four?) she's had the same six teeth. Apparently, it's time to add a couple more. She's still basically sleeping through the night. Though, the other night, New Daddy and I both had to escape to the older kids' beds so that we could all get back to sleep. Sigh. The child really does need her own room.

And, lately, that's been about it.

Oh, and I couldn't resist posting this photo from several months back, while we're on the subject of babies and little mommies. Cutie was just a couple of days shy of eight months old, here.
