Our trip to see the colors

Sunday morning, New Daddy decided at the last minute that we would go to Table Rock for our annual foray into Fall colors. I quickly gathered changes of clothes for everyone, and we went to church. After church, we drove to Table Rock State Park.

Our children are at really good ages for hiking. Precious is a quick-footed expert who rarely trips over the roots, and even enjoys whacking a stick around. When the stick got muddy, though, I had to ask her to put it down. Bubby has a slower gait, but he doesn't mind trail running to catch up. He does get stuck on roots a little more easily. At one point, he would have rolled down the mountain if I hadn't caught him. And Cutie is at a perfectly carry-able age in the Snugli. She rode on New Daddy's back and rubbed his elbow, giving him the warm fuzzies while they walked.

Most of all, the kids, like all kids, just love being outside.

There were two very memorable moments (besides the time that Bubby almost rolled down the mountain). People love to walk their dogs on the trails at Table Rock. Precious loves dogs, but Bubby still screams at the ones who want to smell him. At the beginning of the trail we met a dog with a stubby tail. When Precious asked the owner about it, he replied, "Its tail got cut off when it was a baby." Later on the trail, we met another dog with a stubby tail, whom she also delighted in petting. As we parted ways, thankfully, I was the only person to hear her "knowingly" yell this:

"YOUR DOG LOOKS LIKE HIS TAIL GOT CUT OFF WHEN HE WAS A BABY!"

Memorable moment #2. The hiking trails at Table Rock probably aren't the most ethnically diverse spot in the world. So, when we passed some Asian folks, they must have been notable to Bubby. After they passed, he asked, "Mommy, why are there so many chicken stew people on this trail?"

Go figure while I laugh hysterically-- and thankfully, because they didn't hear him.
