Plants and Poo

Today was spent running many errands in one big trip. We started off at the bike shop, where we bought new tires, tubes, and brake pads for my bike, whose tires had dry rotted from lack of use and age. Then, we worked our way to the nursery, and after that, to the sporting goods store to pick up New Daddy's bike from a tune-up. Then, on the way home, we made a stop at Lowe's for a new hose (remember the untimely death of the other one?).

Precious was in her new car seat after the other one broke, and she wasn't comfortable enough to nap. This lack of sleep made her pretty stubborn and grumpy by the end of the day. At the sporting goods store she was pushing her stroller, and with the smallest hint of any interference from me, she would doggedly push it her own direction (usually progressing to a circular path). When this attempt failed, she melted into a puddle of tears. Very sad to see, and very tired toddler-ish.

At the nursery, we picked up three rabbiteye blueberry bushes (all different varieties for better pollination). We also bought four Carpathian harebells (campanula carpatica) to go in the upper and lower crevices around the steps. Our hope is that they will make nice little mounds and soften the borders of the steps. When they mature, we're going to plant landscaping lights in the mounds.

The fish emulsion at Lowe's was, by far, the highlight of the day. I went into Lowe's to potty Precious, and on a whim, I asked an employee where the fish emulsion was. He got me a bottle, which Precious promptly procured and dropped on the floor (by accident, I think). This accident caused the loose cap to come off the emulsion and spill on the floor. Thankfully, I got it up before a huge spill could occur. You probably know that fish emulsion is fish poo. The little bit that spilled was plenty enough to stink.

While the guy was going to get some paper towels to clean the small, stinky mess, a middle-aged couple walked past us, trying to look polite with half-smiles. But to me, their faces had "Please take your smelly child somewhere else!" written all over their carefully composed facades. I got a huge kick out of that and grinned back, but I had to wait until they were gone to belly-laugh about it.

We got home, put the blueberries and harebells in the ground, and came in shortly after dark, around 9:30. Now, what are we going to eat for supper? How about some fish?
