This post is to serve as summary of last Saturday's Event, a "Princesses and Knights" birthday party for Precious and Bubby. We had told Precious that for her fourth birthday, she was getting a baby sister. But, when people would ask her what she was getting for her birthday, her eyes would light up, and she would reply, "A princess party!" Cutie's soon-arrival is the very reason that Precious' "princess party" happened a couple of months before Precious' actual birthday.
When the castle cake arrived around 11:00, Precious was already in dreamland. It was gorgeous, a much fancier cake than we'd expected! By Sue's Cakes of Oxford, Alabama. Wow. New Daddy missed the arrival of the cake, because he was busy running around picking up balloons, a party platter, last-minute plastic utensils and drinks. He arrived home around 12:30, and everything was set in place for the party at 1:00. Folks streamed in until around 2:00, and we started eating.
The castle piñata was perhaps the most eventful happening of the party. May I start off by saying that I had suggested stringing it from the cherry tree in our front yard? New Daddy had the idea instead to string it from our flagpole. Let us also say that the piñata was a very sturdy work of cardboard. So sturdy that after several whacks from each kid, it wasn't about to give up any goods. (I got it from Birthday in a Box, just in case you, too, would like to buy a sturdy piñata.)
Enter Uncle B. Three whacks later, he had felled the flagpole-- blindfolded, at that; but the piñata was still going strong. Very thankfully, no one was hurt by the falling pole. The men hacked the cardboard to pieces while it sat on the ground, and the kids finally had some treats. Cousin E really got a treat from standing on top of a hidden fire ant hill. She started dancing and screaming, and Aunt Mo rushed her inside and doctored her up with some goot. The rest of us moms shuttled the kids away and gathered up the goods to be divvied up inside.
And then, we opened presents for Precious and Bubby. Precious was most pleased with her Princess bicycle, and spent the next two hours on it while our family filled the cul-de-sac with children on rolling toys. It was quite a sight to see so many young'uns! I think everyone slept very well that night.
And that was the party, in a nutshell. Pictures are up on my Picasa.
