Threshold pt. 2

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, New Daddy discovered rotting wood inside the frame of the deck doorway. Unfortunately, he also made an unneeded cut on the first threshold. He was admiring the way that the mitre saw was cutting, and whoops; he found himself running back to Home Depot for another threshold. He also picked up some filler-putty mix to seal in the still-good wood in the frame, and some Great Stuff to fill in any other holes that might have appeared. It certainly lived up to its name, as it expanded to fill many gaps and ant-highways.

He got the new threshold in before dark, but when he went to screw down the piece that touches the bottom of the doors, he realized that it came up too high. There was no clearance for the doors. So, he took off the narrower facing from the front of the threshold and placed it on top of the threshold. At this point, there is a little too much clearance, but at least there isn't a huge gap. He plans to cut a piece of lumber to custom-fit the gap. There is also no quarter round in front of the new threshold, so the uneven edge of our 80s linoleum is shining in all of its stapled glory.

And, that's where we are for now! There are a few ants sneaking in occasionally, but it looks like we might not be Ant Central anymore. The really good news about this whole ordeal is this. After putting a few nice gaffs in the 80s linoleum that somehow made it into a house built in the 90s (clearance sale, maybe?), New Daddy decided that hardwood is a good idea, after all! Maybe that would be a good project for next summer, though.
