A party and a fire

Saturday, both of our families came over to celebrate New Daddy's 30th birthday. Mimi made his favorite veggies, creamed corn and fried okra. My mom and Aunt Ma supplied kabobs for the grill. Me, I got some plates that said, "30... the party continues," as well as a big "30: Oh, no, the big 3-0" balloon for the mailbox. I admit that it was a little tacky.

There was something that I didn't know about those nifty plates. It appeared that the hamburgers were a little rare. What we didn't know was that some of the hamburgers were laced with sundried tomatoes, which made them look especially rare. Aunt Ma's hamburger was one of these. After checking out the fleshy-looking inside of her hamburger, she decided to pop it in the microwave for about a minute.

Towards the end of the minute, I happened to glance at the microwave, where I beheld *gasp* huge flames. There was a fire inside the microwave. Aunt Ma raced to the kitchen, and in the mayhem, someone suggested that she put something over the fire to starve it. She grabbed a skillet from the stovetop, flipped it into the microwave and quickly extinguished the flames.

After this fiasco, her very well-cooked pattie went straight to the trash. The plate soon followed, after we read this warning on the back: "WARNING - Plate is flammable and may ignite if placed in microwave. Do Not Place in Microwave." Ah, well, at least we'll know better when New Daddy turns 40, and we can use the "milestone birthday" plates again.

Along with this little adventure, the fellowship was wonderful, and New Daddy declared it his best birthday ever. Here is a picture of Precious helping him to extinguish his cake of many candles.
